On late Sunday afternoon, the Florida Panthers acquired Brady Tkachuk from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for four draft picks: the No. 9 and No. 25 picks in the 2026 NHL Draft, followed by a 2027 second-round pick, and a conditional first-round selection in 2029.

Tkachuk is no stranger to the Panthers fanbase, appearing at many games over the team’s three-year run to the Stanley Cup Final (2023-2025) to support his brother Matthew. The siblings will now play together for the first time in their professional careers, outside of All-Star games and international tournaments representing the United States.
Their father, Keith Tkachuk, is a member of the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame and played 1,201 NHL games, becoming one of the few American-born stars ever to score 500 goals, finishing his career with 538 goals and 1,065 points.
As everyone continues to process this blockbuster trade by General Manager Bill Zito, here’s a look at Brady’s career through eight seasons.
5. Favorite goalie target could be a future teammate
Tkachuk has scored 213 goals through 572 games, with 13 empty net goals. Throughout eight seasons in the NHL, he’s tallied a lamp-lighter against 86 different goalies, scoring at least two goals on 55 of them, including Winnipeg Jets netminder and former Hart Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck.

Both Tkachuk and Hellebuyck were teammates on Team USA, which recently defeated Canada to win the gold medal at the 2026 Olympic Winter Games. Interestingly, the NHL goalie who has surrendered the most goals to Tkachuk is Hellebuyck, with nine, two more than Jake Allen.
Overall, he’s beaten eight goalies for more than five goals, including Semyon Varlamov, John Gibson, James Reimer, Jacob Markström, Igor Shesterkin, and Frederik Andersen. If the rumors are true, there’s a chance Hellebuyck is traded to the Panthers this offseason, while Andersen is another possibility as an unrestricted free agent to join the club.
4. Tkachuk loves playing against the Tampa Bay Lightning
If there is one thing Panthers fans can’t stand, it’s the Tampa Bay Lightning. As Atlantic Division rivals for the majority of his career, Tkachuk has enjoyed playing against Florida’s other NHL team, collecting a career-best 31 points in just 23 games. Although he’s got the same amount of points against the Montreal Canadiens, his point-per-game average against the Lightning, which is 1.34, is the highest against any opponent.
Tkachuk’s first career hat trick came on Dec. 11, 2021, versus the Lightning in a 4-0 victory. He’s got 14 goals against Tampa Bay, which ranks second behind the 15 he tallied against the Canadiens. According to his Hockey Reference profile, he’s tallied 129 points against Atlantic Division foes, the same total against the Metropolitan Division.
3. Brady became the youngest captain in Senators history
After just three seasons with the Senators, where he scored 60 goals and 125 points in 198 games, they promoted him to team captain at 22, making him the youngest in team history, surpassing Erik Karlsson, who wore the “C” for the first time at 24. By helping Ottawa qualify for the playoffs in 2025 and 2026, Tkachuk became just the fifth leader in franchise history to lead his team to the postseason, following Randy Cunneyworth, Alexei Yashin, Daniel Alfredsson, and Karlsson.
2. Tkachuk is the second-highest scoring player from the 2018 NHL Draft
The Senators selected Tkachuk as the fourth-overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, behind Rasmus Dahlin (Buffalo), Andrei Svechnikov (Carolina), and Jesperi Kotkaniemi (Montreal). Out of the top five selections from that year’s class, Tkachuk is the leading scorer with 462 points. However, among all players, he’s currently second behind Quinn Hughes, the seventh overall pick, who has 485 points and won the Norris Trophy in 2023-24.
Interestingly, Tkachuk and Hughes have a deep history together, including their recent Olympic gold medal win in February. They also skated together in 2017, winning gold at the U18 WJC and bronze at the U20 WJC. Unfortunately, due to an injury, Quinn didn’t participate in the 4 Nations in 2025, where Brady and Matthew won a silver medal, losing to Canada in the Final.
1. Tkachuk brothers are the highest-scoring active siblings in the NHL
As mentioned, Brady was the fourth-overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft, while his brother Matthew was the sixth overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft. Getting a two-year head start, Matthew has compiled 253 goals and 670 points in 673 games, good enough for a 0.99 points-per-game average. Meanwhile, Brady has 213 goals with 463 points in 572 games, which equals a 0.80 points-per-game average.

Together, the Tkachuk brothers have combined for 466 goals and 1,133 points, which ranks first among active siblings in the NHL. Right behind them are the Hughes brothers, Quinn, Jack, and Luke, who have collected 217 goals and 1,041 points.
The NHL record for most points achieved by brothers belongs to Wayne and Brent Gretzky, who combined for 2,861 points.
