Earlier on Sunday, the Florida Panthers traded forward Mackie Samoskevich to the Seattle Kraken, picking up an extra first-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, plus a conditional second-round pick in 2027.

Now, General Manager Bill Zito has flipped those newly acquired picks, along with their No. 9 pick this year and a conditional first-round pick in 2029, in exchange for Ottawa Senators captain Brady Tkachuk.

Brady will join his brother Matthew, a two-time Stanley Cup winner with the Panthers, who came to South Florida in a blockbuster deal in 2022. Together, the brothers, sons of U.S. Hockey Hall of Famer Keith Tkachuk, recently led the United States to a gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics, their first since the Miracle on Ice team in 1980.

As the fourth-overall pick from the 2018 NHL Draft, Brady has 213 goals and 463 points in 572 games, all with the Senators, who promoted him to team captain in 2021. Despite playing with the franchise since his debut, Tkachuk has played in only ten playoff games, bowing out with the Senators in the first round in each of the past two seasons.

The three-time NHL All-Star played one season at Boston University, winning a Hockey East championship and being named to the All-Rookie Team, an honor he duplicated once he came to the Senators in 2018-19.

Internationally, Tkachuk has won a U18 WJC gold medal and a Top 3 Player on Team award at the 2023-24 World Championship, in addition to his recent Olympic gold medal.

In the NHL, the 26-year-old from Scottsdale, AZ, has scored at least 20 goals in all but one season, the shortened 2020-21 season. Tkachuk is a three-time 30-goal scorer, with a career-high 37 in 2023-24. His best season came in 2022-23, when he netted 83 points.
