Tkachuks, trivia, and hot mics
Apparently, playing hockey together doesn’t give Matthew and Brady Tkachuk enough opportunities to compete. Now they also test each other’s knowledge and let the rest of us watch.
Their podcast,Wingmen with Matthew & Brady Tkachuk, mixes weekly hockey conversations with brotherly rivalry, guest appearances, and funny activities that can make a simple trivia question feel personal.
Sports stars, including Charles Barkley, Tage Thompson, and T.J. Oshie, add their own stories, but the siblings hardly need outside help to entertain themselves.
Florida fundamentals, Tkachuk style
To spice things up, Matthew recently quizzed Brady on how much he knows about Florida. The assignment sounded easy: listen to the statements and spot the fake.
Key lime pie, orange juice, and orange creamsicle ice cream. Which one doesn’t belong among Florida’s official state symbols?
Sadly, Brady went after key lime pie - which Florida officially named its state pie in 2006.
Matthew’s reaction said everything. Of all the things to question in Florida, Brady chose the dessert practically waving a Key West flag.
Then came Florida-man headlines. Brady felt completely confident that someone had tried to bring an alligator through a drive-thru; in their quiz, that was the fake.
We have to admit: Florida makes this game unfair. Sometimes the real headline sounds more ridiculous than anything you could invent.
Brady returns the favor
The following week, Brady took control.
“Last week, you tested my knowledge, so this week it’s my turn,” he announced before serving Matthew his own Florida fundamentals. The choices: the sabal palm as the official state tree, moonstone as the official state gem, and the flamingo as the official state bird.
Without a doubt, Matthew spotted the flamingo. Florida’s official bird is the northern mockingbird, while the palm and moonstone claims check out. Sorry, flamingos. All that Florida branding, and still no official title.
Golf trivia turned out to be more challenging. Brady gave Matthew the following statements and asked him to spot the fake:
1. “The Players Championship was created in 1974, but it was not played at TPC Sawgrass until 1982.”
2. “The World Golf Hall of Fame opened in Pinehurst in 1974 before moving to St. Augustine, Florida, in 1998.”
3. “Bobby Jones designed Sarasota’s Municipal Golf Course and personally dedicated it in 1927.”
Matthew picked the Players Championship statement, but the Bobby Jones claim was the fake. Donald Ross designed the course, and Jones dedicated it.
“I like Donny Ross,” came the response. At least they could agree on that. Apparently, a wrong answer doesn’t have to ruin a good golf conversation.
American vs. German
Moreover, it looks like the Florida Panthers "Double Trouble" duo may have helped make microphones the NHL’s next popular accessory.
On September 30, Brady’s former Ottawa teammate Tim Stützle and Detroit defenseman Moritz Seider announced their own podcast with kicker and Eishockey NEWS.

So, we have the American brothers’ version. Now the Germans, but not brothers, get theirs.
Is this becoming too much of an off-ice show, or are you enjoying the NHL’s extracurricular activities?
