In the dog days of the NHL offseason, publications are looking for fun and engaging topics to keep fans entertained until training camp and opening night, which is why The Bleacher Report took a stab at re-ranking teams’ recent alternate jerseys, with the Florida Panthers’ Reverse Retros threads from 2022-23 ranking second on the list.
Worn for only one season, the baby-blue Adidas-branded jerseys were a huge hit with fans, who appreciated the team's use of its palm tree-and-hockey-stick alternate logo on the chest. Even though the iconic leaping Panthers logo is one of the best in all sports, the switch was a nice touch on the sweater, which featured the team's red and yellow on the shoulders and stripes.
Although the jersey didn’t help them win the Atlantic Division, since the club finished fourth that season, its magic didn’t show up until the playoffs, where Florida would play in their first Stanley Cup Final since 1996.
Surprisingly, out of the ten jerseys on the list, released on July 16, the Panthers Reverse Retro is just one of five sweaters no longer in circulation, joining the now-defunct Atlanta Thrashers (2003-2005), Pittsburgh Penguins (1995-1997), Philadelphia Flyers (1997-2001), and New York Rangers (1996-1998, 1999-2007).
Heading into the 2026-27 campaign, only 10 players remain from the 2022-23 season, including captain Aleksander Barkov, Sam Reinhart, Sam Bennett, Matthew Tkachuk, Gustav Forsling, Eetu Luostarinen, Carter Verhaeghe, Anton Lundell, Aaron Ekblad, and recently re-acquired Radko Gudas, who returns to Florida after three seasons away.
Whether the Panthers will drop a new alternate jersey remains up in the air. But considering how successful the franchise has become since the days of the baby blues, the next jersey release needs to top those Reverse Retros to please a fanbase with high expectations.
