It hasn’t even been 24 hours since the Carolina Hurricanes lifted the Stanley Cup, and the hockey world is ready to talk about next season. One of the country’s leading betting sites, BetMGM, released its odds for which team will win the 2027 championship. In the first offerings, the Florida Panthers have the fourth-best odds, tied with the Edmonton Oilers, at 12.00.
As expected, the usual suspects sit atop the odds list, including reigning Presidents’ Trophy winners, the Colorado Avalanche, at 8.00. They are slightly ahead of the current Stanley Cup champion, the Hurricanes, who open at 8.50.
Ahead of the Panthers in third are two Pacific Division powerhouses, the Vegas Golden Knights (11.00) and the Oilers. Meanwhile, cross-state rivals, the Tampa Bay Lightning, rank sixth at 12.00.
The top ten also include the Minnesota Wild (15.00), Dallas Stars (16.00), Buffalo Sabres (19.00), and the Ottawa Senators (19.00).
Down at the bottom, the Vancouver Canucks have the worst odds to win it all in 2027, coming in at 501.00. Around them are the Calgary Flames (301.00), Seattle Kraken (201.00), Nashville Predators (151.00), and Chicago Blackhawks (151.00), rounding out the bottom five.
Last year, as the Panthers began the season seeking a three-peat, they opened with the second-best odds at +750, behind their Stanley Cup Final rival, the Oilers, at +650. Injuries derailed Florida’s season so badly that there is talk that the Hurricanes almost acquired Sergei Bobrovsky at the trade deadline. In contrast, injuries also put a halt to Edmonton’s playoff hopes in the opening round.

However, with a completely healthy lineup, featuring the return of World Champion and captain, Aleksander Barkov, the Panthers' odds shot right back towards the top. Once general manager Dale Tallon sorts out who is going to backstop them, whether Bobrovsky stays, or the club swings for the fences to acquire former Hart Trophy winner Connor Hellebuyck, the possibilities could be endless.
Of course, their journey won’t be easy, as the Lightning remain a top team in the Atlantic Division, while Montreal and Buffalo are now pushing veteran teams out with their young lineups. No one should ever count the Boston Bruins, and if the Panthers advance to the Eastern Conference Final, there’s always a chance to face the reigning champions, who frequent the Final Four as often as Florida.
