When the Florida Panthers defeated the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday night at Canada Life Place, Matthew Tkachuk had four points, all assists, in his third multi-point contest of the season. Tkachuk has surpassed 100 points twice in his career, collecting 104 in 2021-22 and a career-high 109 during his first season with Florida in 2022-23. That spectacular first season remains the second-best single-season total in franchise history, six points shy of Jonathan Huberdeau’s record of 115 points in 2021-22. According to Elite Prospects, which lists a player’s projected totals based on their current production rates, Tkachuk is on pace for 129 points, which would be a new Panthers record.

Matthew Tkachuk on a collision course with Panthers immortality

During his previous two 100-point campaigns, Tkachuk scored at least 40 goals each season. Through 13 games in 2026-27, he has scored just four goals, putting him on pace for approximately 26 over an 84-game schedule. However, with 16 helpers, good for 1.23 assists per game, he could become one of the few players to ever reach 100 helpers in a single season.

When Tkachuk debuted with the Panthers in 2022-23, he had points in his first six contests, eight in ten, and 17 in 13. That year, he had five goals and 12 assists, very similar to the production he’s had this season. Moreover, he accumulated 30 penalty minutes through 13 games that season, compared with just 14 this year, allowing him to spend more time contributing offensively instead of sitting in the penalty box. Finally, looking back at the career year, he was held without a point in three contests in 13 games, while he’s only at two in 2026.

In 2021-22, when Tkachuk had 42 goals and 104 points, he started the campaign off rather slowly, scoring only six goals and 11 points in 13 games, not even good enough for a point-per-game average.

Tkachuk is already outperforming Jonathan Huberdeau's record-setting pace

Former first-round pick Huberdeau was a key player for the Panthers for 10 seasons, becoming the first player ever to score 100 points in a single season for the club. In his first 13 games of his record-setting campaign, he had just three goals and 13 points, good for a point per game. Meanwhile, Huberdeau recorded just two multi-point games, compared with three for Tkachuk. Through the same number of games, Tkachuk has already collected seven more points than Huberdeau did during his record-setting campaign, highlighting just how remarkable his start has been.

Even if Tkachuk matches or surpasses Huberdeau’s point totals, including his franchise record of 85 assists, there’s one aspect of that special season that can’t be duplicated. After a first-round loss at the conclusion of the 2020-21 season, the Panthers roared out of the gate to a 10-2-1 record, while the 2026-27 Panthers currently sit with a 7-4-2 record after 13 games.

With the NHL expanding its regular-season schedule from 82 to 84 games, Tkachuk will have two additional opportunities to challenge Huberdeau's franchise record. However, the longer schedule also brings additional demands, with inevitable peaks and valleys in both his production and the team's overall success. Whether Tkachuk ultimately breaks Huberdeau's record or not, his remarkable start has already made the 2026-27 campaign one worth watching, and it's only one month old.
