Aside from the exciting news that Brady Tkachuk is now a member of the Florida Panthers, their AHL affiliate, the Charlotte Checkers, made a big announcement on Tuesday, thanking their captain, Trevor Carrick, for his efforts over the past two seasons as he departs the organization to play with EHC München in the DEL.

Initially drafted by the Carolina Hurricanes as the 115th selection in the fourth round of the 2012 NHL Draft, Carrick has played only seven NHL games, instead forging a career in the AHL, winning the Calder Cup with the Checkers in 2018-19.
As a long-time alternate captain with the Checkers and San Diego Gulls, Carrick earned the captaincy last season, scoring 23 points in 59 games to finish 13th in team scoring.
In 753 AHL games, which ranks 60th all-time in league history, Carrick has scored 103 goals with 409 points and 744 penalty minutes. Moreover, he’s a three-time AHL All-Star and earned a Second All-Star Team nod in 2024-25.
Regarding his place in Checkers’ history, Carrick is second in games played, behind Kurt Seher; 20th in goals; fourth in assists; and sixth in points.
On Mar. 15, 2016, Carrick made his NHL debut with the Hurricanes in a 2-1 overtime loss to the Washington Capitals. He’d play again four days later on Mar. 19, before skating a single contest in the 2017-18 and 2018-19 seasons. Eventually, Carolina traded him to San Jose for Kyle Wood. In 2019-20, Carrick played the first three games of the season for the Sharks, last skating in the NHL on Oct. 10, 2019.
According to Elite Prospects, Carrick will be one of six Canadian players on EHC München for 2026-27, along with Jeremy McKenna, Taro Hirose, Chris DeSousa, Ryan Murphy, and Antoine Bibeau. Last season, the club finished 29-15 in 52 games, good enough for 100 points, only one of four DEL teams to reach that total.
Born in 1994 in Stouffville, ON, CAN, Carrick departs the Checkers as their oldest skater at 31, leaving goalie Louis Domingue as the team’s elder statesman at 34. Meanwhile, Trevor’s brothers include two who have retired from the game, Jack and John, while their youngest sibling, Sam, is a member of the Buffalo Sabres.
