At the conclusion of the 2025-26 NHL season, the Florida Panthers hit a crossroads with their roster, with several key members of their Stanley Cup-winning lineups eligible for free agency.
Of course, everyone is talking about goalie Sergei Bobrovsky and whether he stays in Florida, but another name is popping up on the NHL Insider lists: 29-year-old A.J. Greer.
A.J. Greer's intention is to head to market. Leaving door open to Florida if Panthers can find cap space or make a move. But all signs point to pending UFA winger and bruising winger, coming off career high 17 goals, going to July 1 market.

According to Pierre LeBrun, the latest word on the nine-year veteran is that he is open to a return to the Panthers, but he’ll most likely head into free agency looking to capitalize on a career season in 2025-26.
Initially drafted by the Colorado Avalanche as the 39th overall pick in the second round of the 2015 NHL Draft, Greer didn’t earn a full-time role in the league until 2022-23 with the Boston Bruins.
However, he still didn’t reach his potential, never scoring more than six goals in a single season. Yet, with an opportunity to take on a larger role on an injury-plagued lineup during his second year with the Panthers, Greer erupted for 17 goals and 32 points in 78 games.
Moreover, he achieved a plus-14 rating, the highest on the team by a country mile, and achieved all those totals while sitting for 113 penalty minutes, good enough for sixth in the NHL.
Statistically speaking, only Washington Capitals forward Tom Wilson scored more points than Greer in last season’s 100-PIM club.
In 326 games, Greer has tallied only 36 goals and 81 points, with Florida’s 2025 Stanley Cup run the only playoff experience on his resume. If Greer indeed signs with another franchise, it will be his sixth, having already dressed with the Avalanche, New Jersey Devils, Bruins, Calgary Flames, and Panthers.
On July 1, 2024, Florida signed Greer to a two-year deal worth $1.7 million, paying him the league minimum at $850k annually. After last year’s performance, he’s looking to double his previous contract at least.
