Don’t overlook how dominant Marchand has been in November

Brad Marchand leads the Florida Panthers with 23 points in 18 games. His current points streak started 11 games ago against the Boston Bruins on Oct.21.

While Mercury retrograde causes delays, challenges, and glitches to some, others use the extra strength during this period. Apparently, that’s the case for empowered Florida Panthers forward number 63.

November is an excellent month for Brad Marchand, who recorded eight goals and four assists in eight games. Moreover, he got at least one point in every matchup this month. He has been active on the ice for 11 consecutive games. At 37, he is ranked in the Top 15 among all active skaters with 13 goals and 10 assists. His dominant performance earned him a global spotlight in the hockey media once again.

Novembers for Marchand

Interestingly, it wasn’t always the case. Last November, as a Bruin, he recorded six goals and four assists in 14 contests. In his first NHL season in 2009-2010, Marchy didn’t have a single point in November. The 2011 Stanley Cup season was filled with three goals and four assists in 14 games. During his most productive 2018-2019 campaign, he registered 100 points (36+64), with only nine in November.

Make it to 1,000

Legendary Gordie Howe was the first NHL player to reach 1,000 career points on Nov.27, 1960. It was his 938th game. Sixty-five years later, a former Boston Bruins captain, Brad Marchand, collected his 1,000th point in the Florida Panthers’ uniform.

Before the Florida Panthers hosted the Washington Capitals on Nov.13, Brad “Marchy” Marchand was two steps away from joining the NHL 1,000-point club. In the middle of the third period, he assisted Seth Jones on a power-play goal to strengthen the Panthers’ advantage to 5-2. Ninety seconds before the final siren and with an empty net on the horizon, Anton Lundell set his linemates up for one of the most critical missions.

It wasn’t the prettiest or most challenging goal. But it was a team effort and a hard-fought pass for Marchy. Marchand, who is brutal on the ice and humble off the ice, couldn’t imagine ever reaching such a high standard of becoming the 102nd player in NHL history and the first in the Panthers jersey with 1,000 points. It took him 1,116 games and over 16 seasons. He is on his 17th NHL marathon. The breakdown of his 1,000 is 435 goals and 565 assists. Even though the veteran winger was the center of attention, there was another celebration that night. Daniil Tarasov finally recorded his first win of the season as a Panther.

After the victory, Marchand and another record-setter, Alex Ovechkin, symbolically signed and exchanged jerseys.

Part of a special group

Once a player joins the 1,000-point club, an internal competition continues. According to NHL Records, 12 forwards are in the race for more. As of Nov.17,

  • Brad Marchand, Florida Panthers (1003)
  • Nikita Kucherov, Tampa Bay Lightning (1010)
  • Nathan MacKinnon, Colorado Avalanche (1048)
  • Connor McDavid, Edmonton Oilers (1112)
  • John Tavares, Toronto Maple Leafs (1138)
  • Claude Giroux, Ottawa Senators (1130)
  • Steven Stamkos, Nashville Predators (1195)
  • Anze Kopitar, Los Angeles Kings (1288)
  • Patrick Kane, Detroit Red Wings (1352)
  • Evgeni Malkin, Pittsburgh Penguins (1369)
  • Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins (1708)
  • Alexander Ovechkin, Washington Capitals (1638)

Considering Marchand’s recent six-year contract extension (AVV $5.25 million) with the Panthers, an infinite competitive spirit, and a strong start to the ongoing season, he can catch up with some of the guys. But it looks like Marchy is happy as he is. As a natural-born leader and competitor, Marchy credits his success to his teammates.

Marchand, who debuted in the Panthers uniform on March 28, 2025, against the then-Utah Hockey Club, proved to be one of the best additions to the team. Another goal that he has is to make the 2026 Olympic Team Canada. If he continues on the current pace, it will be hard to ignore him and leave him out of a star-studded roster.
