It took him two attempts, but he has finally done it.

Florida Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky won his 400th career game Thursday night as the Panthers defeated the New York Rangers 3-1.

"I just look at this game as a big two points for us," Bobrovsky said. "It's an important win for us."

After the perfunctory quote, Bobrovsky spoke about No. 400.

"I have been fortunate to skate with some of the best players in the world and play for the best coaches," Bobrovsky said. "I thank my teammates for the win. I will enjoy this moment for a long time. I enjoy playing this game like a little kid."

His coach Paul Maurice, could not speak highly enough of Bobrovsky, who is the first Russian goalkeeper to get 400 wins in the National Hockey League.

"It's incredible because for the first nine years of his career he had to grind," Maurice said. "I am happy he gets the recognition while he's on top of his game."

Bobrovsky led the Panthers to the Stanley Cup title last season. He wanted to win No. 400 at home earlier this week against the Minnesota Wild, but the Wild had other plans as they won 5-1 in Sunrise.

The Russian became the 14th goaltender in NHL history to reach the 400-win milestone. The 36-year-old goalkeeper, in his sixth season with the Panthers, has a career record of 400-226-56 in 15 seasons. He also played for Philadelphia and Columbus.

Bobrovsky is second in wins among active goalies behind Minnesota’s Marc-Andre Fleury.

"Bob is very impressive. His preparation on a daily basis stands out," teammate Aaron Ekblad said. "I'm really happy for him. We really had some good motivation to come out and win this game."

Matthew Tkatchuk praised his goaltender and called him the best goaltender in the league.

"We celebrate with Bob tonight. He's the backbone of our team and I cannot think of anyone who deserves to be celebrated more," Tkachuk said. "What an incredible man and an incredible goalkeeper. Nobody deserves it more. He is a true professional."

Bobrovsky will look for No. 401 on Saturday when the Panthers travel to Uniondale to play the New York Islanders.
