The Florida Panthers have played 16 games thus far this season and have a 9-5-2 record before their upcoming clash with Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals on Saturday, November 7. Including the game on Saturday, the Cats will have 11 games left to play this month, with some heavyweights on the schedule. Today, we'll look at five upcoming games Panthers fans should be excited to watch.
5. Saturday - November 6 @ Washington Capitals
The Panthers and Capitals meet twice in November, both in the nation's capital, giving fans two opportunities to see the great Ovechkin before he skates off into the sunset. As the greatest scorer ever against Florida, the NHL's all-time leading goal scorer will look to continue to pad his numbers against the Panthers.
4. Thursday - November 12 vs. Detroit Red Wings
The Detroit Red Wings recently beat the Panthers on November 2, a rare loss in which one of the bottom teams in the Atlantic Division defeated Florida. As an Original Six matchup, fans should also come out to Amerant Bank Arena to see one of the league's most storied franchises. Despite not being a powerhouse like they were more than a decade ago, at least they have former Panthers netminder Daniil Tarasov, who earned a victory earlier in the week.
3. Wednesday - November 25 vs. Ottawa Senators
No one really wants to talk about the first meeting between the Panthers and the Ottawa Senators, which was Brady Tkachuk's first meeting with his former team. Despite Florida's hot start, the game turned into a train wreck, with Ottawa's crowd loudly rooting against its former captain. However, on November 25, the Senators are coming to Florida, giving Panthers fans a chance to return the favor. It will be a fascinating watch to see if the Cats can avenge a previous 5-1 loss.
2. Saturday - November 28 vs. Tampa Bay Lightning
It only took almost two full months for the Battle of Florida to commence, and now, with news that Nikita Kucherov has requested a trade, there may not be many opportunities left to see him wearing a Lightning jersey. Whether on the road in Tampa Bay or at home, these games are always close and intense, with fans left wanting more. Considering where both teams sit in the Atlantic Division standings, these two points could prove valuable later in the season.
1. Tuesday - November 17 vs. Edmonton Oilers
Most fans would just circle any Edmonton Oilers game on the calendar, thanks to a rivalry developed through meeting in back-to-back Stanley Cup Finals. But ahead of their meeting on November 17, this is a different Oilers team, with Connor McDavid averaging more than two points per game and defenseman Evan Bouchard on pace for 150 points. Although the Panthers have already faced several measuring-stick moments this season, their meeting with the Oilers, currently the NHL's second-best team, could be the ultimate test of where Florida stands.
