Aleksander Barkov Injury History

Aleksander Barkov has the potential to be one of the NHL’s best players. When he is on the ice, he is as dynamic as any player in the league. However, the one thing that has held him back through his career has been injuries.

We’ll take a look at the injury history of the Finnish superstar and update this article throughout the career of Aleksander Barkov. The more he can stay healthy, the more he can grow his resume for a potential Hall of Fame career.

February 14, 2016

Barkov sustained an upper-body injury in an Eastern Conference showdown with the Detroit Red Wings. A hit on Red Wings forward Justin Abdelkader that knocked him out of the game.

The future Panthers superstar did not miss much time but was placed on injured reserved. He did, however, return to action a few days later and returned to the lineup on February 25. 

December 30, 2016

Barkov’s injury in December of 2016 remains undisclosed. He was hit with a shot on his side in a game against future teammate Keith Yandle, but the team reassured the media that the injury was suffered days prior.

As the team’s point leader at the time, Barkov missed significant action and did not return to the team until February 3, 2017. 

November 27, 2021

Barkov began an injury-plagued start to the 2021 season after a knee-on-knee collision with New York Islanders defenseman Scott Mayfield. He stayed in the game for a few minutes after the hit but eventually left the game.

10 days later, Barkov returned to action and returned to a depleted Panthers team. Unfortunately, his stint on the active roster did not last long as he would go down with another lower-body injury just a few days later. 

December 13, 2021

Barkov’s return to the ice in 2021 did not last long. In a meeting in St. Louis with the Blues, the captain sustained a knee injury that knocked him out of the game and caused him to miss a few weeks.
