Leading up to the trade deadline, Florida Panthers GM Dale Tallon completed his first move before the big day.
On Wednesday, February. 19 at 11:00 A.M., the Florida Panthers announced that they acquired forward Mason Marchment from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for forward Denis Malgin.
Marchment, who’s 24 years of age, has participated in four games with the Leafs this season, recording a lone assist. A native of Uxbridge, Ontario, Marchment spent his time in juniors with the Erie Otters, Hamilton Bulldogs, and Mississauga Steelheads.
Entering the league as an undrafted player, the Maple Leafs signed Marchment to an AHL contract back in 2016. In a grand total of 124 games with the Toronto Marlies, Marchment tallied 38G, 32A, for 70 total points. He was also a member of the 2018 Marlies team that went on to win the Calder Cup.
Moving the other way is Denis Malgin, who was originally drafted by the Cats in the fourth round (102nd overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft. The 23-year-old native from Olten, Switzerland, dressed in 36 games this year, putting together a slash line of 4G, 8A, for 12 points.
Through his career to date, Malgin has played in a grand total of 184 games with the Panthers, registering 28G, 32A, for 60 total points. With the Springfield Thunderbirds down in the AHL, Malgin featured in a total of 28 games, recording 7G, 19A, for 26 total points – almost good for point-per-game measures.
Marchment is expected to report to the Springfield Thunderbirds upon his arrival, while Malgin is expected to jump straight into the Leafs lineup with injuries continuing to pile up on their roster.
Your Panthers are back in action tonight at 10 P.M. to take on the Anaheim Ducks in their second outing of their five-game western road trip.
