Following a career-worst season as a member of the Florida Panthers, Colton Sceviour will most likely experience a bounce-back year in 2020 with the Cats. For the upcoming NHL campaign, Florida Panthers fans should anticipate a 20 to 25 point campaign from the veteran forward.

Essentially, Colton Sceviour was signed by the Florida Panthers during the 2016 NHL free agency period, becoming a main staple on Florida’s fourth line since joining the team. Despite experiencing a relatively mediocre 2019 campaign, Sceviour was simply sensational on Florida’s fourth line during the 2017 and 2018 NHL seasons.

Colton had an adequate 2017 season with the Florida Panthers (his first with FLA). In 80 NHL games played, Colton Sceviour produced a decent slash line of 9 goals and15 assists for 24 total points. Also, Sceviour was exceptional in other areas of the game, recording a faceoff winning percentage of 53.4%, 64 blocked shots, 108 hits, and 40 takeaways to only 23 giveaways.

Moreover, Colton followed his brilliant 2017 season with another satisfactory year in 2018 for the Florida Panthers. While participating in 76 NHL games, Sceviour produced a slash line of 11G, 13A for 24 total points. Additionally, the native of Canada was superb on the defensive end, registering a +6 rating, 69 blocked shots, 84 hits and 31 takeaways to 32 giveaways.

In essence, Colton Sceviour’s first 2 seasons with the Cats were quite successful, providing consistent offensive production and serving a meaningful role as a two-way, versatile fourth liner. Evidently, Colton could play on either the wing or at center, while also doing a phenomenal job as the team’s primary penalty-killing forward.

However, the 2019 season proved to be a challenging, injury-riddled campaign for the 30-year-old Canadian forward. Due to nagging injuries, Colton Sceviour would only suit up in 59 regular-season contests, recording a relatively disappointing slash line of only 5 goals, 10 assists for 15 total points.

In addition, Sceviour shot a career-worst 4.3% on 116 shots, while also registering a career-worst 35.5% winning percentage from the faceoff circle. Simply put, the 2019 season was a forgettable, yet miserable one for the veteran fourth-liner.

Despite the poor 2019 season, Colton Sceviour will enter the 2020 campaign completely healthy and with fewer responsibilities. The Panthers will have Noel Acciari as the team’s permanent fourth-line center, meaning Colton will be positioned as Florida’s fourth-line right-winger. This position change will help Sceviour become more aggressive offensively, and thrive while playing alongside productive forwards such as Noel Acciari and Jayce Hawryluk.

Furthermore, as long as Colton Sceviour remains completely healthy, we can safely expect a 20-25 point campaign from the experienced forward. Moreover, Sceviour will play a critical role on the top penalty kill unit, along with performing the intangibles on a consistent basis for the Florida Panthers.

Regarding the 2020 season, Colton will certainly play alongside more skilled linemates, which will undoubtedly increase Colton’s point production and consistency. Ultimately, Florida Panthers fans will likely witness a revived version of Colton Sceviour during the 2020 NHL season.

Overall, a 20+ point season is the expectation from Colton Sceviour in 2020 for the Cats. If Sceviour fails to deliver at least twenty points, then the Florida Panthers will likely move on from Colton in the following season. Nevertheless, I personally believe that Colton Sceviour is fully capable of a 20+ point campaign this upcoming campaign for FLA.
