Florida Panthers very own, Jonathan Huberdeau, became the first inductee into the St. John Sea Dogs Hall of Fame. Huby, has become a fan favorite back home.

On August 18th, Jonny became the first player in Sea Dogs history to be inducted into the organizations’ Hall of Fame. The 24-year-old is regarded as one of the best players to wear the Sea Dogs jersey.

During his time with St. John, he led the team to the 2011 President Cup championship, along with a MasterCard Memorial Cup title. He was named MVP of the tournament (MasterCard Memorial), while also leading his team to the 2012 President Cup championship. Huberdeau remains all-time leading scorer, with 257 points. Jonathan also places second in goals (104) and first in assists (153) as well.

The Quebec native has also received numerous team awards which include: Most Valuable Player in 2011 and back-to-back Fans Choice Awards in both 2011 and 2012. When asked about becoming the first inductee in the team’s Hall of Fame, Huby said the following:

"“This is obviously a huge honor for me,” Huberdeau said. “So many great players have played here. Being the first inductee into the Hall of Fame means a lot. I had great teammates here, and the fans have been so wonderful to me. Saint John will always be a special place. The Sea Dogs have built a winning tradition and I’m proud to have been a part of it.”"

Sea Dogs President and General Manager Trevor Georgie, was very complimentary of his former player:

"“Jonathan is synonymous with Sea Dogs hockey. There are a number of players who could have been the first inductee, but Jonathan stood above the rest. On the ice, he was a critical component in a multi-year championship run and rewrote the team’s record books in the process. Off the ice, he earned a reputation as a kind, mature, caring and loyal individual. His impact on our organization still resonates with fans today. That made him a worthy first inductee.”"

Overall, you really can’t argue as to whether or not Huberdeau deserved this gesture. The kid has brought this team their only Memorial Cup title, while also leading them to more unmarked territory. He’s done it all for this organization, and in result, deserves to become the first inductee into the Sea Dogs Hall of Fame.
