Future Florida Panther Henrik Borgstrom Wins NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Championship
The University of Denver won it’s eighth national championship (NCAA) with the Florida Panthers draft pick, Henrik Borgstrom.
The Florida Panthers played their final home game of the season last night. Captain Derek MacKenzie noted the teams disappointment in the season but stated that the Panthers have a bright future because this is a young and skilled hockey team. One example of this youth and skill that the Cats have is Henrik Borgstrom.
The Panthers selected Henrik Borgstrom in Round 1 (23rd overall) in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. This proved to be a good pick, as he is now a “National Champion” and one of the Panthers prospect.
The University of Denver played Minnesota Duluth for the National Championship on Saturday night at the United Center in Chicago. Denver would go on to win their eighth national title in a 3-2 victory.
Henrik led his team during the season by scoring 21 goals, 21 assists, and 42 points. He also has a lot of upside potential as he is only a freshman. He is ranked third in points among all freshman nationally.
Borgstrom was a key asset during the Frozen Four for DU. Denver played Notre Dame on Thursday, April 6th and Denver advanced to the championship with a 6-1 victory. Henrik scored at 14:50 in the first period and gave the Pioneers a two goal lead early in the game.
Borgstrom proves to be a great two-way player on the ice. His nickname is “The Artist” which makes perfect sense when you watch him play. He’s got great hockey hands, hockey hair, and a great hockey name. It’s no wonder that he has gotten so much attention during his first year playing college hockey.

The Florida Panthers made a good choice when they drafted Borgstrom, as he has proven to be a skilled left-handed center. He has been a valuable team player for Denver and has adjusted well coming from Finland to play college hockey.
While many fans would like to see Borgstrom in the Panthers lineup, he will continue his college hockey career at the University of Denver next season. The Panthers future is bright with this rookie in the organization and when the time is right, he will get his chance to show off his skills in the NHL with the Florida Panthers.
