Florida Panthers Beat The Buffalo Sabres 3-0
The Florida Panthers beat the Buffalo Sabres in their final game at home. The Panthers will look to end their season off on a high note.
The Florida Panthers went into this game playing all for pride. This game would be the last for Shawn Thornton at home in Sunrise Florida. Shawn and the Cats would look to go out and win this game for the fans.
The first period offered very little as both teams went scoreless. It looked as if the game was going to be a real long one, as there was little to no excitement going on. It was up until the seven minute mark in the second period where Nick Bjugstad scored the first goal of the game. Assist were given to Thomas Vanek and Reilly Smith in result. It was about time big Nick found himself on the score sheet.
Ten minutes later,
jumped in on the action and extended the lead (2-0). Huberdeau’s goal was very weird, as he was already in the net himself, before the puck crossed the line. Let’s watch down below Huberdeau’s odd goal on the night.
The Cats would take their 2-0 lead into the third period. Around five minutes into the third, Jonathan Huberdeau scored his 10th goal of the year and gave the Panthers a 3-0 lead. Jaromir Jagr also notched his 30th assist of the season and continued to add more to his remarkable career. I was hoping for a “Huby hat trick”, but unfortunately that didn’t happen.
However, what did happen was a Shawn Thornton honoring. Shawn may have only played three seasons with the Cats, but those three years were vital years for this young team. Shawn hardly scored any goals during his time here, but he brought experience and leadership to the locker room. Leadership is something that can’t be taught, it’s something one is born with. You either have it or you don’t.
Too thank Shawn for a remarkable three years here in Sunrise, the Florida Panthers decided to make a video in appreciation for all that he has done. I just wanted to say that I had the chance this year (February 27th in Buffalo at the morning skate), too meet all the Panthers live in person. One of the players I had an opportunity to speak with, was Shawn Thornton. Shawn, you took the time to sign my jersey, shake my hand, and share a couple of laughs with a young Panther fan, all the way from Toronto. I just wanted to say thank you for all that you have done, not only for myself, but for all of you have done for this franchise, and the others you had the chance to play for. Nevertheless, let’s relive Shawn Thornton’s video tribute down below!
The Florida Panthers are back in action for the final time this year tomorrow night against the Washington Capitals. Yes, this season has been a clear disappointment, but as fans, let’s cheer on our boys and get those two points to end the year on a good note.
