Jaromir Jagr 10 Interesting Facts
We break down 10 of the more interesting things you might have forgotten about Jaromir Jagr
Its been the talk of the season that 44 year old Jaromir Jagr is still putting out insane numbers for his age. With another year signed to the Florida Panthers, many wonder what its going to take for the Ageless Wonder to finally hang up his skates. Over the course of his career, he has left a mark that is guaranteed to land him into the Hall of Fame, and have everyone talking about just how much Jagr has done both on and off the ice in his career. Today, were looking at ten facts you might not have known about Jaromir Jagr
The letters in Jaromir can be rearranged to spell Mario Jr
Why this little fact is so interesting is because his former linemate, Mario Lemieux was considered to be the best on his team, leaving Jagr to play a second fiddle early in his NHL career. Lemieux’s health became problematic during the 90s which led to his eventual retirement. Jagr would be named team captain after Lemieux retired.

Jaromir Jagr had his own brand of peanut butter?
In a strange product tie in, Jaromir Jagr ended up with his own brand of peanut butter. During the height of Jagr’s fame as a Pittsburgh Penguin he also ended up with his own ice cream bar, the Jagr Bar. Years later, someone brought Jagr a jar of this strange piece of Jagr memorabilia to show him, something he seemed to be quite ecstatic about. You can usually find the peanut butter on places like ebay.com for about $15, but I wouldn’t recommend eating it.
Jaromir Jagr opened the first ever sports bar in Prague, Czech Republic
While this one is probably a dream of most sports stars after they retire to settle down and open a business, very few can claim they opened the first in the city, especially considering the bar opened in July of 1999. Jagr’s Sports Bar was a tourist stop in Prague for just under a decade and was full of hockey memorabilia and a great place to catch a hockey game while visiting Prague. Unfortunately, the bar is closed down today.
His father owns the HC Kladno hockey club
Jaromir Jagr Sr. is the owner of the HC Kladno, which is part of the Czech 1. Liiga league. Jaromir Jagr Jr. would play for the club in stints in 1994, 2004 and 2014 during the NHL lockouts. Some other talents who played for the club include former Panther Tomas Vokoun, Patrik Elias and Marek Zidlicky of the New Jersey Devils, Tomas Plekanec of the Montreal Canadiens and Radko Gudas of the Philadelphia Flyers. Jagr also got involved in a chain of hotels in the Czech republic with his father during the 1990s. Jaromir Jagr is also the third Jaromir in his family, as both his grandfather and father are both named Jaromir
From 1980-2001, Jaromir Jagr is the only player other than Mario Lemieux and Wayne Gretzky to win the Art Ross Trophy.
While this stat doesn’t sound so impressive when you consider the fact that Gretzky has 10 of those Art Ross trophies over the span of his career which ended in 1999, the fact that Jagr owns 5 Art Ross trophies and wasn’t eligible to win one until 1990 when he came to the NHL. Gretzky would only win two after Jagrs arrival in 1991 and 1994. Mario Lemieux would win 4 of his 6 Art Ross trophies during the 90s while Jagr would win the award four straight years from 1997-98 to 2000-01.
Jaromir Jagr is almost two decades older than the average age of the NHL players he plays with
Jagrs age is one of the things other teams tend to obsess about when it comes to talking about Jaromir Jagr. He would turn 44 years old on February 15th, 2016 and only five days later would score twice to pass Brett Hull for third all time in goals. Jagr beats the average age of 26.74 years by almost two entire decades, and if you do the math, his debut in 1990 was 26 years ago, meaning that players who are in that 25 and under age bracket weren’t even born yet.
If Jagr plays until he is 60, and keeps his average of 85 points per season, he could pass Wayne Gretzky for All Time Points.
While this statistic seems improbable, Jaromir Jagr needs 12 more seasons to catch Wayne Gretzky in all time points. Jagr is at 1868, while Gretzky is at 2857 points. With 12 full seasons, Jagr needs to maintain a point per game if he hopes to catch the great one. Jagr would be 58 years old when he reaches that achievement. Its more reasonable to expect his average per season goals of 35 to hold for five more years to pass Gretzky for all time goals in just under five years which he would achieve at age 49. Considering Jagr has stated he wants to play until he is at least 50 years old, Jagr could finally be the one to usurp Gretzky from his throne on top of the NHL stats.
Jaromir Jagr’s legendary glove box full of speeding tickets.
Jagr’s lead foot is the stuff of legend in Pittsburgh. Many who have had to sit in the passenger seat with Jagr driving will attest that it is a nerve wracking experience. Phil Bourque, who was a former teammate of Jagrs in Pittsburgh spoke to the Boston Globe back in 2013 and recalled his glove box being full of speeding tickets, ones he isn’t even sure if Jagr ended up paying. “His bad driving habits were very well-known in town. He had a glove box full of speeding tickets, but he never paid them. And he would tick off policemen, because when he would get a speeding ticket, he would open up his glove box and just jam them in there until he had about 20 speeding tickets. I don’t know if he ever did pay them all”
Jagr lost the 2000 Hart Trophy voting by just one vote
If this isn’t something to talk about when trying to convince someone of the power of one vote, I don’t know what is. Jagr would lose the Hart trophy, awarded to the player who is considered most valuable by his team by just one vote to Chris Pronger in the year 2000, Jagr still went home with the Art Ross that season, so I don’t think he was too upset over it.

Jagr just celebrated his 20th anniversary of holding the record for most points by a right winger
Considering he is reaching tons of career milestones in his later years, this one seems to be buried behind them all, but the record of 149 points in 1995-96 by Jagr has held for 20 years, more interesting is that as a right winger, he also holds the most assists in one season and in the NHLs history. Jagr is only 52 goals shy of having the career best 801 record that Gordie Howe owns and needs an 86 goal season to break Brett Hulls season record for most goals.
