The Florida Panthers suffered another loss on the blueline as Tom Gilbert underwent surgery after suffering a sports hernia. He will miss the remainder of the season and his career with the Panthers is more than likely over after one season.

Gilbert, 31, is one of two players on the roster to play every game this season and has registered 28-points (3 G, 25 A) in that span. He was signed to an one-year deal before the season after spending the last two seasons with the Minnesota Wild.

The former fourth round pick of the Colorado Avalanche in 2002 was having a great rebound season, being among the team leaders in points for the majority of the season but had struggled of late, now with this we can only wonder if the injury was the reason for his struggles.

All though they lose Gilbert, Erik Gudbranson appears to be a go for tonight’s game against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Here were the defensive pairings during today’s morning skate

Kulikov-Campbell

Olsen-Gudbranson

Robak-Jovanovski
