Previewing The Florida Panthers Offense: Part 2

2012-13 Season:

Gomez spent last season playing with the San Jose Sharks after the Montreal Canadiens used their compliance buyout to escape Gomez’s 7-year $51 million contract. Playing with a much more reasonable one year $700,000 contract, Gomez scored 15 points (2-13-15) in 39 games for the Sharks. San Jose did not re-sign Gomez and the Panthers scooped him up on a one-year deal worth $900,000.

2013-14 Projection: 

The Panthers signed Gomez in hopes that he will revive his playmaking ways. The Alaskan native has ten seasons with 40-plus assists under his belt. The veteran will also be a role modal for the younger Panthers who are just getting their feet wet in the NHL. So far Gomez has looked pretty good, he scored in the Panthers opener and he has been a factor in every game. He won’t ever come close to repeating his 33 goal season from 05-06 but he will be a nice piece in the Panthers bottom six.
