Florida Panthers Announce Training Camp Roster, Make Moves

Tom Szczerbowski-USA TODAY Sports

The Florida Panthers have announced their 59 man roster for their upcoming training camp, which is set to begin on Wednesday, September 11th. The roster consists of 34 forwards, 20 defensemen and five goalies. The full roster can be viewed here.

Included on the roster are forward Brad Boyes and defenseman Brett Clark, both veterans who have accepted invites to tryout with the Panthers. Boyes, 31, scored 35 points in 48 games (10 goals, 25 assists) while playing for the Islanders last season. He has been a productive player since breaking through with the Bruins in 2005-06 and he has reached the 65 point plateau three times in his career. Boyes should have a pretty good shot at making the Panthers this season (his 35 points last season tied him with Tomas Fleischmann, the Panthers leading scorer last year).

The 36 year old defenseman Brett Clark did not have a positive 2012-13 season as he only managed to play in eight games for the Minnesota Wild. He has been a steady player throughout his career and the Panthers are brining him into camp to evaluate whether he has anything left in the tank. His odds of making the team will be considerably longer than those of Boyes.

Tim Thomas Invite

The Florida Panthers have extended an invite to attend training camp to goaltender Tim Thomas. According to the reports, Thomas could decide on the invite by Wednesday. With the injury news involving Scott Clemmensen, it seems logical that the Panthers would pursue some goaltending depth. Earlier the name whispered on the winds was Rick DiPietro but it appears that the Panthers will be going with the more high profile Tim Thomas.

Currently the five goalies in camp will be, Jacob Markstrom, Scott Clemmensen (when healthy), Dov Grumet-Morris, Michael Houser, and Rob Madore.

Panthers Make Roster Moves

The Panthers announced that the following players have been released from their tryouts: D Alex Gudbranson, D George Hughes, D Myles Harvey, F Trevor Lewis, F Liam Heelis, F Corey Trivino, and G Mack Shields. The following players have been returned to their junior clubs: Francis Beauvillier (Rimouski QMJHL), Chris Clapperton (Blainville QMJHL) and Alexander Delnov (Seattle WHL). (Source)
