The Florida Panthers have announced the signing of free agent forward and NHL tough guy George Parros. The 32 year old right winger has spent his entire seven year NHL career in the Western Conference, starting with the Los Angeles Kings, then a brief stint with the Colorado Avalanche, and for the past six seasons with the Anaheim Ducks.
Parros who is from Greek ancestry like yours truly here, will be bringing his on ice toughness, and his off ice personality to a Panther’s hockey team that can certainly use both. The best season that Parros had when looking at points was in 2008-2009 when he had five goals and five assists for a career high 10 points while with the Anaheim Ducks. Of course what Panther fan could forget this two goal performance on December 1st, 2010? His teammates and coach certainly praised him for his efforts:
However as we know, Parros wasn’t acquired for his goal scoring prowess. Parros who has one of the most recognizable mustache’s in the game will become the new “policeman” for the Panthers. Always one of the league leaders in fights, and usually accumulating more than 150 penalty minutes, Parros will stop the likes of the Flyers and Bruins from running all over the Panthers, thus making us tougher to play against.
While Parros is one tough customer on the ice, he’s a solid citizen off of it, and is well liked by his teammates, and was heavily involved in his community in Anaheim and the Childhood Leukemia Foundation coupled with his Cuts For Kids.
While this move doesn’t solve our issues with scoring, it does solve our lack of toughness. We’ll have more on George in a few days.
In the meantime George if you’re reading, welcome to South Florida. Greek Islands on A1A in Fort Lauderdale is my top suggestion for great Greek food. And if you need a babysitter for that beautiful baby of yours, @LilMissRatTrick is available.
