My Top 3 Florida Panther Comebacks Of 2011-2012 Season

3) 2/26/12 Florida Panthers comeback from 2-0 against the Montreal Canadiens to win 4-2

Early in the 1st period, David Desharnais scored the first goal for the Canadiens during a 4 on 4. The second goal came just a few minutes later in the 1st period as PK Subban scored on a 5 on 3. Just a few minutes after that, Stephen Weiss picked up a rebound and put in the back of the net making it 2-1 going into the 2nd period. Just 1 minute into the 2nd, Sean Bergenheim scored a beauty of a goal putting the puck right in the top corner of the net tying the game at 2. The third goal was a bit strange as the puck ended up right in front of Weiss who was hovering over the net. Weiss saw it immediately and scored to put the Panthers up 3-2. With 10 minutes left in the game, Brian Campbell scored off a slapshot which would be the game. Nothing too special about this comeback but it was a special night for Stephen Weiss as he was being honored for passing Radek Dvoraks record for most games played in a Panther uniform. Weiss also was on a goal scoring drought so to net 2 goals for the Panthers comeback that night was huge.

2) 11-21-11 Florida Panthers down 3-0 to New Jersey comeback and win 4-3

When the New Jersey Devils go up 3-0, you would assume the game is over. If you do catch up, probably won’t win a shootout. Well in November, the Devils brought it to the Panthers in the first period. Ilya Kovalchuk scored early on and a minute later, Petr Sykora scored again making it 2-0 very early. 2 more minutes later, Dainius Zubrus would net another one for the Devils. The positive thing was the Panthers had 2 periods to come back and they did. A little into the second, Kris Versteeg found a loose puck that ended up in the back of the net. Just 5 minutes later, Versteeg would score again. Halfway through the 3rd, Stephen Weiss scored a shorthanded goal which tied the game and gave the Panthers sure hope they could win this game. With just 2 minutes left, Tomas Fleischmann received a nice pass faking out Brodeur and scoring that fourth goal which gave the Panthers the comeback win. This comeback win showed the Panthers meant business this year and should be taken seriously. It was also the first time Devils coach Pete DeBoer was in BankAtlantic Center as a coach for a different team.

1) 4/17/12 Comeback from being down 3-0 against the New Jersey Devils to win Game 3 of the playoffs

The game started out terrible; things could not have gone worse. A few seconds into the game, New Jersey’s Zach Parise  scored. 3 minutes later, they scored again, and 3 minutes later, they scored well again. It was exactly like a repeat of the November game. It seemed the Devils were outplaying the Panthers and getting all the right opportunities. With just 4 minutes left in the 1st period, Sean Bergenheim scored to give the Panthers a little hope. Lucky for them, Jason Garrison would come up big to score just seconds before the 1st period ended giving the Panthers tremendous hope going into the 2nd. Everything fell into place after that. A few minutes in, Mike Weaver would score his first goal of the season and chose just the right time to do it! A few minutes later Brian Campbell would score to make it 4-3 Panthers which is how the game would end. Why was this game special? It made the Panthers go up 2-1 in the series, it was the biggest comeback in Panther postseason history, the Panthers forced Martin Brodeur to be pulled from a playoff game for the first time since 2006, Scott Clemmensen’s first playoff win in his career against his former team, Mike Weaver’s first goal of the season. It showed people that this Panther team doesn’t take the word sweep
lightly and was going to prove everyone wrong.
