Yes, I know the featured photo may be confusing, but this is indeed about Adam Mascherin not Henrik Borgstrom.

Adam Mascherin
Left Wing — Shoots L
Born Jun 6 1998 — Maple, ONT
Height 5’9 — Weight 197

34 G, 64 A, 98 Points in 62 games played with the Kitchener Rangers this season (OHL).

Back in June the Florida Panthers selected Adam Mascherin with the 38th overall pick, he hasn’t looked back since. This season he’s posted great numbers and has been described by his coach as the “offensive motor” of the Kitchener Rangers.  Jay McKee also said of Mascherin, “He’s just a guy who goes out and finds a way to put up points every night”.

Already known for having a big shot, he used to shoot 500 heavy pucks a day in front of his parents garage since he was ten. Resulting in his mother getting angry about noise and dents in the garage door and his father building him a playwood net. Mascherin says he’s been working on completing his offensive game this season however. I’d say 64 assists is a pretty good step in the right direction.

Being that he’s about 2 years out of possibility of NHL play, he will be an interesting prospect to follow as he progresses his game and to watch at development and training camp. He has amassed 75 goals in 170 games in the OHL, also the leading scorer on his team this season and third in the entire league.

Stature has been something that he’s been questioned about a lot being 5’9, but he believes if the skill is there then there’s no reason to dwell on height. He’ll be a great player to have in South Florida for years to come if he can carry over his strong offensive game and finishing ability to the NHL. Very well spoken at 18 as well, he carries strong leadership qualities with his current team even as a youngster.

I recommend anyone who hasn’t heard his interview with the guys from the Point to Point podcast (@PTPHockey on twitter) to check it out ASAP. Stay tune for more on our prospect profiles.
