Dale Tallon is stepping up in the Florida Panthers office and focusing on scouting and assigning new talent

In a move many predicted as early as two weeks ago, the Florida Panthers have made some changes to their front office staff. The news to assign Tom Rowe to general manager of the Florida Panthers and move Dale Tallon to VP of hockey operations seems somewhat odd at first considering Tallon had been resigned to his role back in January of this year alongside head coach Gerard Gallant as well as Tallon being a well respected GM and considered one of the best in his position.

Looking at what this decision means in the long term and breaking it down piece by piece, it is a great move for the Florida Panthers to make and frees them up to be even more aggressive in scouting new talent and having someone else to focus on the contracts, trade talks and other duties the general manager performs.

The Hockey News reporter Ryan Kennedy got to speak with newly acquired GM Tom Rowe, who said the following

Tallon seems to be very okay with the decision as well. Speaking with Jameson Olive, reporter for the Florida Panthers official website, he spoke about how he was excited to be doing more of what he loved rather than the other duties that came with being GM.

Tom Rowe becomes the tenth General Manager for the Florida Panthers in the teams history, and has had experience as an NHL player, playing over 400 games for Hartford, Detroit and Washington as well as minor league coaching stints in North Carolina, Texas, Maine and even Russia. Rowe spent the last three season of his coaching career behind the bench of the Portland Pirates, the Florida Panthers AHL team.

With a new general manager at the helm and Dale Tallon focusing more aggressively on scouting and helping with new and young talent, something that sounds preposterous considering the Panthers recent signings out of the minor leagues, the move is just another way the Florida Panthers are moving forward and becoming the success they are destined to be.
