Brad Boyes is no longer a Florida Panther, as his contract was bought out over the off-season by Dale Tallon.  Luckily for the 33 year-old right-winger, he just received an NHL contract from the Toronto Maple Leafs after a successful PTO.  And good for him, because he showed some fine bursts of productivity over two seasons in South Florida.

But over those two seasons, how many Panther fans knew about his wicked tongue and wit?  Speaking to Toronto reporters this morning, Boyes threw some shade over in the Panthers’ direction:

Zing!  Kapow!  Now that’s the kind of high-character, high-quality quote that hockey fans have come to value from a player like Brad Boyes.

Perhaps he was referring to the now-closer proximity of his Mississauga, ON family.  Perhaps his quote was misheard or misrepresented.  Perhaps he was giving the drama-loving, Florida-mocking Toronto media exactly what they want to hear.

Panther fans know that the BB&T Center could be more packed, and there’s no denying that.  But maybe if Boyes had scored more than 35 goals in 156 games with top-six-forward minutes, he wouldn’t have had to prove himself again for a team that had already seen him four times last season.  Maybe he could’ve put more butts in seats, too.

All we can say is “good luck” to Brad Boyes in his foray with our division rival Maple Leafs.  But maybe he should be more grateful to the Panther fans, since we’re still the ones paying him $833,333 both this season and next to no longer play for us.
