Florida Panthers Re-sign Jimmy Hayes

The Florida Panthers and restricted free agent Jimmy Hayes agreed to a one-year deal this morning right before their arbitration hearing was about to begin. The deal is also a one-way contract and the money amount hasn’t been disclosed yet.

Last season Hayes was acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks as part of the Kris Versteeg deal and he ended up having a career year for the Cats as he scored 11 goals and added 7 assists in 55 games. Hayes was most effective when he was placed on the second power-play unit and he used his massive 6′ 6” frame to screen goalies and tuck the rebounds into the net. Check out his career stats here and his highlights here.

“We are pleased to have reached an agreement with Jimmy, we look forward to his continued contributions to our team both on and off the ice.” – Dale Tallon

With this signing the Panthers now have 12 forwards on one-way deals and have Barkov, Bjugstad, and Huberdeau on entry level contracts. We will almost certainly see some trades made come the end of training camp.
