The Rat Trick Morning Links: Nathan MacKinnon, AHL Rules Change, Tomas Jurco

Frozen Futures takes a look at the amazing rookie season Nathan MacKinnon had. Playing the majority of the season as an 18-year old, MacKinnon broke records formerly held by the Great One, Wayne Gretzky. He has the potential to headline one of the best draft classes in recent history with other players like Aleksander Barkov, Jonathan Drouin and Seth Jones also a part of the same draft.

The AHL has made some rule changes that, if successful, has the potential to eventually make its way into the NHL. As oppose to having a five minute overtime followed by a shootout, the AHL will have a seven minute overtime period, the first four will be at 4-on-4 and after the first stoppage after the four minute period it will then become a 3-0n-3.

It also took a step into possibly eliminating fighting from the American League. Now if you engage in more than one fight, or amass three major penalties in a single game you will be ejected from that contest. It will be interesting how much this will steer players away from fighting in general.

The good, bad, and the ugly of free agency over the past five years.

Tomas Jurco has some of the sickest hands in the league, here is an example of that.
