Florida Panthers and Willie Mitchell Agree To Deal

Its becoming quite apparent that the Florida Panthers are going to be a tough team to play against. So far we have added Shawn Thornton, Dave Bolland, Jussi Jokinen, Al Montoya, Derek MacKenzie, and now Willie Mitchell. Mitchell recieved a 2 year deal worth $8.5 and he is coming of a Stanley Cup winning season with the Los Angeles Kings. He will be a great veteran prescence on the back-end who can mentor Ekblad and Gudbranson.

Mitchell is a defensive minded defenceman who posted 1 goal and 11 assists last season. He is also very physical and has some size at 6’3″, 208 lbs. In my opinion, this signing is one of the best of the day. Check out his career stats here.

Dave Bolland: 28, Joe Thornton: 34, Willie Mitchell: 37. Panthers just got older with the league’s castoffs.

Aleksander Barkov 18, Nick Bjugstad 21, Jonathan Huberdeau 21, Erik Gudbranson 22, Dmitry Kukikov 23, Vincent Trocheck 20, and Aaron Ekbald 18. Today’s signings aren’t meant to be the future of the Panthers as much as they are going to fill holes the team currently has and mentor all of our young players. Yes the Panthers did sign some older players but right now they are a far more talented team then last seasons.

The Panthers got a great player in Mitchell. As a Kings fan, I wish him well. The Panthers are lucky to have him.
