With their last pick of the 2014 NHL Draft, the Florida Panthers selected Swedish goaltender Hugo Fagerblom. Standing at a monstrous 6’6″, his build will instantly remind you another former Swedish goaltender the Panthers once had in their system – Jacob Marsktrom.
Whereas Markstrom came from the Brynas IF program, Fagerblom is a current product of Frolunda. This past season with the U18 team, he played in 20-contest and posted some impressive numbers.
As we saw with Markstrom, it takes years for some goaltenders to develop, and Fagerblom will get the opportunity to take as much time as he needs with the Panthers goaltending situation tied up for the immediate future with Roberto Luongo. He will get to do so at the comfort of his own pace and in the comfort of his own country.
If he does get to come to North America at some point, don’t expect him to do so for at least three, maybe four years, if he comes over at all.
