While it was originally believed that the Florida Panthers would not move outside the top eight, reports are now coming in that they are fielding offers from teams outside the top ten.
TSN’s Darren Dreger twitted earlier today that the Panthers are talking to several teams about the first overall pick including a few from outside the top ten.
The Philadelphia Flyers were reportedly interesting in the first overall pick, and were expected to be one of the more aggressive teams at the draft, which is in front of their hometown crowd.
They have plenty of young, established NHL players that could more than certainly fill the ‘now’ and ‘future’ labels that Florida may be looking to acquire. Trading so far back they won’t get any players at the draft that could help immediately, but will add another prospect to the Panthers deep farm system.
Dreger also tweeted that the team will look to have their decision on what they plan to do before they make it to the draft table, so if no word of a trade surfaces by let’s say 5 p.m., it is more than likely they pick first overall.
Trading down to the 17th overall pick is much further than most fans would like, but the idea of getting one of the Flyers young established NHL players would more than certainly make up for it.
