The Rat Trick Links: Jim Rutherford, Jake Gardiner, Hall of Fame

Not even a month into his tenure as the Pittsburgh Penguins general manager, Jim Rutherford is raising some eyebrows and not in a good way. A head coaching search that begun right after a press conference that saw Rutherford fire Dan Bylsma while admitting he didn’t ‘know him that well’ has proved disastrous, as the Penguins have missed on everyone of their coaching targets.

Rutherford may have also hinted that Matt Niskanen and Jussi Jokinen may not be returning next season.

After being one of the overwhelming favorites to win the Stanley Cup this past season ended up in failure, the St. Louis Blues have to make a big splash.

Jake Gardiner is a name that the Florida Panthers are ‘rumored’ to be after in a trade for the first overall pick, but they aren’t the only team looking into acquiring his services.

Despite the Norris Trophy being awarded to the best defenseman during the regular season, does the fact that Shea Weber is the only of the three finalist not to make the playoffs hurt his chances?

The Hockey Hall of Fame has announced its class of 2014.

The Philadelphia Flyers and Columbus Blue Jackets have made a trade, with R.J. Umberger going back to the Flyers and Scott Hartnell being sent to Columbus. The Flyers also get a 2015 draft pick in the deal.
