The Rat Trick Morning Links: Julius Honka, Sam Bennett, Michal Handzus

In a thrilling double overtime game, the Chicago Blackhawks escaped to fight another day with their victory in game five. Michal Handzus scored the game winner to extend the series.

After looking at Thatcher Demko yesterday, here is another intriguing name to keep an eye on, Julius Honka. His size could scare off some teams (has been called as short as 5’7 to as tall as 5’11), so if he does drop somehow drop to the Florida Panthers in the second round, they could have a quarterback for their power play or at least another option to play there.

Our own Devin Nolf posted a poll on who the Panthers should take with the first overall pick. Aaron Ekblad was the leader as of when this article was written. Make sure to cast your vote.

More on the draft, NHL.com looks at some of the top Russian born draft eligible players including Ivan Barbashev, Vladimir Tkachev, and Vladislav Kamenev.

A great in depth look at the top prospect according to central scouting, Sam Bennett. I am still a big fan of Bennett and if the Panthers do keep the first overall pick I would choose him over Ekblad. Florida is still in no place to pick by ‘need’ and Bennett’s skill set is something that they could use in their organization. Anytime you are compared to Doug Gilmour, you can be an asset to a team.
