The Rat Trick Morning Links: Giguere Retires, Kings Take Control, More Barry Trotz

Yesterday was Memorial Day, a time to remember all who have served and fallen protecting our freedoms here. Here is a good article on former NHL players to give their lives in service of their country.

The NHL Draft is a month out, and everyone is diving deep into their draft analysis, including here at The Rat Trick. Sabre Noise is looking at previous second overall picks, the spot where they will make their selection this year. In this article they look at last year’s second pick – Aleksander Barkov.

The Los Angeles Kings beat the Chicago Blackhawks 5-2 last night and now take a 3-1 lead in their series. They are now one win away from reaching the Stanley Cup Final for the second time in three years. NHL.com looks at why the Blackhawks shouldn’t be too worried, as this is nothing new for them.

Yesterday when the Barry Trotz signing became official, I took a look at who else is out there as candidates. Trotz was once my top candidate to fill the Florida Panthers’ coaching vacancy so it will be interesting what/who they will go with from here now.

Jean-Sebastien Giguere is retiring from hockey, the 1995-first round pick of the Hartford Whalers was the 2003 Conn Smythe Trophy winner as Playoff MVP for the Anaheim Ducks. He would also be the ‘last’ first round pick of the Whalers as they didn’t have a pick in the ’96 first round and became the Carolina Hurricanes in 1997.
