Dale Tallon has stated that with money to spend, he plans on the Florida Panthers to have a big offseason. Not only will they make a splash in the free agent market, but Tallon has made it clear that trading for players is an option.
The Panthers have the assets to make a big move, and one of the first speculated moves that they could make was adding scoring winger Joffrey Lupul from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Lupul, 30, would add that mix of skill and experience that the Panthers are looking to add. In 600-career games he has scored 184-goals and has five 20+ goal seasons in his ten years as a pro.
Signed through the 2018 season at a $5.25 million cap hit, Lupul will have to try and stay on the ice on a more consistent basis if the Panthers are going to trade for them. In ten seasons, Lupul has never played in all 82-games, all though he did play 81-in his second and third seasons in the NHL.
A package as such as Drew Shore as well as a combination of a draft pick or prospects could entice the Maple Leafs to let go of their winger – who has been a topic of trade talks before.
Lupul obviously fills a hole that is on the top of Florida’s needs list. If he can stay healthy, over his career he has posted a 25-goal, 52-points 82-game average. The 52-points would have easily put him as the team leader this past season.
How would feel about the Panthers adding Lupul? Who would you be willing to give up? What would be too much?
