Despite a valiant third period comeback effort from the Columbus Blue Jackets, the Pittsburgh Penguins were able to hold off and close out their series. Evgeni Malkin led the way for the Pens, registering a hat trick – his first three goals of the series. [NHL.com]

The Colorado Avalanche and Minnesota Wild series has truly been an entertaining one to watch, and fans of both teams – as well as hockey fans in general – will get a chance to see these two teams play a decisive game seven after the Wild’s win in game six. [NHL.com]

Another game seven in the Western Conference, with the Los Angeles Kings fighting all the way back from down 0-3 to tie the series after their win last night. [NHL.com]

Two new general manager hires around the league yesterday, as the Carolina Hurricanes hired former ‘Cane Ron Francis to replace Jim Rutherford. For the Calgary Flames, Brian Burke has decided on Brad Treliving to be their new general manager.

The NHL continue to announce the finalist for the end-of-year awards, with Zdeno Chara, Duncan Keith, and Shea Weber getting the nod for the Norris Trophy as the league’s top defenseman. [ESPN.com]
