The action really picked up in day two of the NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Tournament, as the prospects of the Florida Panthers’ had another busy and success day.
Kyle Rau of the Minnesota Golden Gophers had a goal and an assist in their big win over Robert Morris. They will play St. Cloud State for the chance to go to the Frozen Four.
Rocco Grimaldi and his North Dakota team will be heading to Philadelphia for the Frozen Four after beating Ferris State in double overtime. Grimaldi had a hat trick in their upset of the Wisconsin Badgers but finished with only four shots on goal in last night.
The Panthers’ goaltender of Sam Brittan and Evan Cowley lost to the Boston College Golden Eagle and their duo of defenseman in Ian McCoshen and Michael Matheson by a score of 6-2. Both Brittan and Cowley got a chance to play, unfortunately for Brittan that was because he allowed six goals on 26-shots.
Matheson and McCoshen combined for a plus-two rating, six shots on goal and six penalty minutes. Matheson had two assists, both on Johnny Gaudreau goals, his first assist was on the goal that would be the eventual game winner.
