Welcome to The Rat Trick’s morning links! Your best place to keep up to date on what’s going on around the NHL.
Starting off on the home front, the Florida Panthers dropped their game to the Detroit Red Wings last night by the score of 3-1. They play their last game before the Olympic break tonight against the Carolina Hurricanes. A recap from last night’s game, as well as a preview will be up later.
The biggest story going on today, is today’s roster freeze deadline – occurring at 3 p.m. ET. Team’s can use this as a ‘pre’ trade deadline and try to make a move now as oppose to wait for the trade deadline. One team believed to be active today will be the New York Islanders, where it looks like they going to try and move Thomas Vanek today before the deadline. [TMMOTS]
Speaking of the Islanders, they already started the action last night, making a minor trade with the Chicago Blackhawks that included Pierre-Marc Bouchard. Details can be found here. [TMMOTS]
A battle of heavyweights took place in the midwest, one that could very well be a Stanley Cup matchup between the St. Louis Blues and the Boston Bruins. The Blues took the game 3-2 despite a valiant comeback effort from the Bruins. [Causeway Crowd]
Team Canada may be looking for another replacement, as Dan Hamhius was scratched for the second consecutive game – maybe leaving his Olympic status in doubt. The story here. [TMMOTS]
More Olympic injury news. Team Sweden will only have half of the Sedin twins, as Henrik was forced to pull out of the games. [The Canuck Way]
Thanks for reading! Be on the look out for the game recap and previews later today.
