2nd Star: Scott Clemmensen
When Tim Thomas left Panthers practice last Thursday with a lower body injury, the immediate future for the Panthers looked bleary. At the time of the injury, the Panthers had won ten total games, nine of which were won by Thomas. With Thomas out for a bit, it was up to Scott Clemmensen to keep the train moving.
Clemmensen, 36, started against Washington on Friday and stopped 23 of 25 shots and then followed up that strong regulation performance by stopping seven out of ten Capitals shootout attempts to seal the win for the Panthers. Clemm was in net again on Sunday in Montreal where he helped the Panthers pick up a 2-1 win stopping 17 of 18 en route to picking up his second straight win which was also his second total win of the season.
Clemmensen has been solid in relief of Tim Thomas and he gave the Panthers a chance to win in each of his two starts last week. For that, he is deserving of second star honors.
