Its been awhile since The Rat Trick has awarded its Three Stars Of The Week but the Florida Panthers have played so well recently, that I had to dish out some honors. Let’s get right into it:

Dec 5, 2013; Sunrise, FL, USA; Florida Panthers defenseman Erik Gudbranson (44) celebrates his goal against the Winnipeg Jets with defenseman Dylan Olsen (4) in the first period at BB&T Center. Robert Mayer USA TODAY Sports

3rd Star: Dylan Olsen

Dylan Olsen saw his five game scoring streak fall by the wayside on Sunday against the Montreal Canadiens but that was the lowlight of what was an otherwise stellar week. Since he joined the Panthers lineup in late November, Olsen has been an offensive difference maker on the Panthers blue line, totaling seven points (3-4-7) in ten games. He continued his scoring ways last week registering a point in two out of three games.  Olsen was credited with an assist on Nick Bjugstad’s game tying goal against the Red Wings on Tuesday and he scored a goal on Friday against the Washington Capitals. His goal against the Caps was the result of a smart pinch into the offensive zone and a deadly accurate finish.

Olsen, who came over in the Kris Versteeg trade, is only 22 but for now it looks like he has solidified a spot on the Panthers blue line.
