So as you have probably heard by now, this morning the Florida Panthers fired head coach Kevin Dineen. They also fired assistants Craig Ramsay and Gord Murphy. Peter Horachek will be the interim head coach while a couple of former Panthers, John Madden and Brian Skrudland, will serve as assistants.
There has been plenty said about the move and there will be plenty more said when everything is said and done. At this point, the firing of head coach Kevin Dineen appears to only be the start of what could be a tumultuous winter for the Panthers full of trades and player turnover (not the turnovers we are used to seeing although there will be plenty of those as well, I’m sure.)
By the way, my favorite line regarding Dineen and the Panthers today came from Greg Wyshynski over at Yahoo. Greg the excellent journalist that he is, picked the most important facts the lede in his story about Dineen getting the boot:
“Head coach Kevin Dineen has fired by the Florida Panthers on Friday, just five days before Finnish Fan Night at the BB&T Center.”
As with any news of this magnitude, I am interested to hear what Panther fans think. We have a two part poll today, the first about how you feel about Dineen being fired and the second, what you expect from the new coaches. We love to hear your opinion so fill out the polls below and if thats not enough, voice off about the big day in the comments section below.
Personally my reaction to the firing has been mixed. My reasoning for that has to do with the second question because I do not think changing coaches is going to have much of an effect on the Panthers this season. I like Kevin Dineen as the Panthers coach, I did not want to see him get fired but its not like I am shedding any tears of losing any sleep now that it happened.
I think Horachek could be a good fit for the Panthers but I also think Dale Tallon is going to be dealing whichever players he can so a huge climb up the standings seems a bit farfetched.
