Florida Panthers (1-1-0) at Philadelphia Flyers (0-3-0) 7:00 p.m. ET
The Florida Panthers continue their four game season-opening road trip tonight when they take on the Philadelphia Flyers. The big story of the night is Craig Berube will be making his head coaching debut for the Flyers. Berube will be replacing Peter Laviolette who was fired yesterday after the Flyers lost their third straight game to start the season.
The game tonight will be a matchup between two teams with something to prove. The Flyers will come out hard tonight after going winless in their first three games, having their head coach fired and getting called out by their general manager. The Panthers on the other hand, were embarrassed by the St. Louis Blues on Saturday night 7-0.
Tonight will be the first of three meetings between these two teams. It will be the Panthers only trip to Philly, and their Flyers will be the team’s first Eastern Conference opponent after beginning the season out west with tilts against the Stars and the Blues.
Last year the Panthers took two out of three games from the Flyers. Both of their wins came at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia while their loss was at home, a 7-1 thrashing in January.
Tim Thomas should be back in the net for the Panthers. Thomas started Saturday against the Blues and gave up five goals on 28 shots before getting pulled after the second period. Thomas has dominated the Flyers in Philadelphia throughout his career. In eight regular season games in Philly, he is 8-0 with a 1.86 goals-against-average and .947 save percentage.
