Florida Panthers Fall To Stars 4-1, Take On Tampa Tonight

The Florida Panthers trip to Texas ended on a down note with a 4-1 loss to the Dallas Stars in San Antonio. The Panthers were the ‘home’ team as the game was played at the AT&T Center the arena of their AHL affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage.

The Dallas Stars jumped out to an early lead and did not look back. The only Panther goal came on the power play when defenseman Tom Gilbert beat Stars goalie Dan Ellis off a nice feed from Brian Campbell.

Michael Houser started in net for the Cats and played the entire game finishing with 24 saves on 28 shots.

Panther forward Shawn Matthias took a nasty hit late in the second period. Matthias stayed on the ice for a few minutes but was eventually able to skate to the bench on his own. After the game, head coach Kevin Dineen said the injury does not look to be serious.

“I think he’s going to be fine, we were very cautious of any hits to the upper part of the body and I think that was more of a cautionary check by our medical staff.”

Here are some highlights of the game:

The Panthers will travel to Tampa Bay today to take on the Lightning tonight at 7:00 pm ET. Jacob Markstrom will get the start in net for the Panthers.

The Panthers are expected to make about 20 cuts today prior to their trip to Tampa. Those players will stay behind in San Antonio and to participate in the Rampage’s upcoming training camp. When the Cats take the ice on Monday their roster should be down to about 35 players.

Following tonight’s game, the Panthers will have a few days of practice before wrapping up their pre-season schedule with games Thursday September 26th and Saturday September 28th, both against the Lightning. The team will have a chance to avenge their two losses to the Stars this week when they travel back to Texas for their season opener on October 3rd.
