The Florida Panthers announced today that their annual prospects camp will begin September 4th. The 28 players in attendance, (3 goalies, 9 defensemen, and 16 forwards) will undergo medical and physical testing Wednesday September 4th in advance of the first on ice practice which will be held Thursday September 5th at the Saveology.com Iceplex.
The Panthers prospects squad will partake in a four team round robin tournament running from Friday September 5th to Sunday September 8th. Including the Panthers, the teams participating in the tournament will be, the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Boston Bruins and the Nashville Predators. Here is a complete schedule of the tournament:
Friday Sept. 6th: Tampa Bay vs Boston at 2 p.m.
Friday Sept 6th: Nashville vs Florida at 6 p.m.
Saturday Sept 7th: Nashville vs Tampa Bay at 12 p.m.
Saturday Sept 7th: Boston vs Florida at 4 p.m.
Sunday Sept 8th: Boston vs Nashville 12 p.m.
Sunday Sept 8th: Tampa Bay vs Florida 4 p.m.
The games will be free to the public but fans must pre-register for tickets at Floridapanthers.com/Trainingcamp and tickets must be printed out prior to attending the games.
The Florida Panthers roster will include some big name prospects such as forwards: Aleksander Barkov, Nick Bjugstad, Quinton Howden and Vincent Trocheck. On the defensive end, Alex Petrovic and Jonathan Racine are the two better know prospects competing in the tournament. In addition to these two, Alex Gudbranson, the younger brother of Erik Gudbranson, will also be in attendance.
There will be some added drama in this tournament as the second, third and fourth picks in this years NHL Entry Draft will be competing. Aleksander Barkov, Jonathan Drouin and Seth Jones will all be in attendance and this will be the first of many opportunities for folks around to league to debate which team made the best decision by selecting which player. Don’t think that the fact that the Panthers and Lightning both passed on Seth Jones will be something that is easily forgotten.
