Florida Panthers Morning Nips 8/3/13

With the calendar turning to August, we are entering the final stages of the NHL Offseason. The season will not start until October but the pre-pre-season is just beginning. What I mean by that is, we are getting to the point were we will start to see “team previews” popping up all over the net. The NHL blogosphere is vast and it needs to be to meet the insatiable clamoring for hockey content from fans around the world. Millions of words about the 2013-14 NHL season will be spilt before the puck drops on opening day. Some of those words may even be about the Florida Panthers. While we here at the Rat Trick will have our hand in the madness, we will also act as tastemakers pointing you to the best Panthers content around the web. With the signing of Scott Gomez and the Tim Thomas rumors floating around, there is plenty to talk about so without further ado, here are some links:

  • Its Florida Panthers day over at Pro Hockey Talk!! This is a good place to start if you have been too busy having a life to follow the Panthers’ offseason in great detail.
  • Here  is another Florida Panthers offseason recap.
  • Scott Gomez recently signed a one year $900,000 deal with the Panthers. Here Hockeybuzz’s Dan Spiegel wrestles with the question of whether the signing will make the Panthers any better.
  • My opinion on the Tim Thomas rumor is that the Panthers would be better off avoiding him. Alexander Calloway from Litter Box Cats has a different view on the situation, his take being that the Panthers should sign Thomas. Calloway does a nice job outlining his argument (while reading his piece, I even found myself re-evaluating my take…side note: I still think Florida should avoid Thomas) and it is disagreements such as these that make hockey such a fascinating sport. We may never know what the best outcome for the Panthers would be but does that even matter when the conversation is so damn fun?
