Michael Caruso, 25, signed a one year two-way deal that carries a $650,000 cap hit. The 6’2” defender was surprised many by making the Panthers out of training camp but was unlucky to break his are just two games into the season. Caruso played in 35 games in the AHL with the San Antonio Rampage following his injury and tallied one goal and and three assists.
The 31 year old forward Greg Rallo also singed a one year two way deal, his coming with a $600,000 cap hit. Rallo led the Rampage in goals last year with 23. His 40 points ranked second on the team behind Jon Rheault.
These signings provide the Panthers with some needed depth. While it is doubtful that we will see either of these players on the Panthers roster to start the season, they will be close at hand to answer the bell if they are needed as injury fill-ins.
The Panthers also released their pre-season schedule today. Here is a look at the team’s exhibition games leading up to the regular season:

It is interesting that the Panthers begin their off-season slate with doubleheader against the Nashville Predators. You do not see too many double headers in the hockey world although the two teams have done this before as they also began the 2011 preseason with a pair of games.
