Jonathan Huberdeau‘s strong play in February has not gone unnoticed as he was named the NHL’s rookie of the month. Huberdeau had six goals and three assists for the month of February. His six goals led all NHL rookies. Also in the running for rookie of the month was Huberdeau’s Panther teammate Drew Shore. Shore has impressed since his call up early in the season and recorded 2 goals and 8 assists for 10 total points in 13 games played throughout February.
The accolades for the Panther’s impressive rookies are special for the individuals but also representative of the positive things to come for the Panthers down the road. Shore and Huberdeau have been leading the Panthers’ most productive line this season, something rookies do not usually do. Huberdeau’s 8 goals on the season lead all NHL rookies and Shore’s 10 points rank 7th in the NHL. There is a good chance that this year’s Rookie Of The Year could be one of these prodigious Panthers.
Only two months into their NHL careers, Drew Shore and Jonathan Huberdeau are shining beacons of hope for a Panthers franchise that has been stuck in a rut of mediocrity for such a long time. Whatever the rest of the season holds for these two players, one thing is for sure, it should be fun to watch.
