Gameday Preview: Florida Panthers at Ottawa Senators

After easily handling the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, the Florida Panthers head up to Ottawa tonight to face the Senators.  The Senators are coming off a victory of their own stomping the Jets 4-1 in Winnipeg.  The Senators had the upper hand last season taking three out of the four games played between the teams.  The Panthers will be very familiar with the Senators by the end of the week as the two teams will be meeting again Thursday night in Florida.

Pre-game Points:

  • Kris Versteeg did not play in the Panthers opener, and his spot in the lineup was filled by Mike Santorelli. It looks like Versteeg will not be in the lineup again tonight so Santorelli should again be the fill-in.
  • Dmitry Kulikov and Mike Weaver will be returning to the Panthers tonight to bolster the Panthers blue line.  The two returning players will most likely replace Tyson Strachan and Michael Caruso. (Source)
  • Ex-Panther Craig Anderson will most likely get the start in net for the Senators.  Anderson played solid for the Panthers as a backup from 2006-09.  Solid enough to get starting looks in Colorado and later Ottawa.
  • Alex Kovalev was rocking an old school helmet in his Panthers debut which was cool to see.  His three points were very cool to see as well.
  • Did Huberdeau impress in his Panthers debut or what??!!  One game in this league does not make you a star but WOW he looked good out there.  I was most impressed by his strong hands.  He looks like a guy who is going to be tough to get off the puck once he has control of it.  Lets hope we see more post-game interviews with him wearing the Velvet Hat.

Thats all for now.  Enjoy the game tonight.
