Well, it’s official. The NHL has cancelled all games through December 14th along with the January 27th All Star Game in Columbus, Ohio due to the absence of a new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).
For the Panthers this cancellation wipes six games, three home and three road, off the slate. The Panthers lose games in Sunrise against Philadelphia, Colorado and what would have been a big matchup against Martin Brodeur and the New Jersey Devils. They also lose their west coast road trip which featured games against the Anaheim Ducks, Phoenix Coyotes and last season’s Stanley Cup champion Los Angeles Kings. (Source: Florida Panthers)
What comes next?
That’s something that could be pondered forever as it’s not set in stone. However, many people seem to believe the next thing to go will be the entire season. Obviously that’s the worst thing that could happen, at least in my opinion. The good news: Gary Bettman hasn’t made that announcement yet meaning there’s still hope! Not that I’d hold my breath but at least the nail’s not in the coffin!!!
Anyways, while you’re deciding whether this season will be saved join me in showing your Panther pride by saying these three magic words…WE. SEE. RED!!!
