Only the NFL’s Buffalo Bills (1999 season), and 5 major league baseball teams Washington (1981 in Montreal), Kansas City (1985), Pittsburgh (1992), Toronto (1993) and Baltimore (1997) have longer active droughts without a postseason appearance than Florida.

That might change with a goal tonight as the Florida Panthers have the ability to clinch the Southeast Division and the third seed in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a win over the Winnipeg Jets. Their magic number is 2 meaning that any win over the next three games will do the trick. The Panthers, however, hope to take care of business tonight.

This is something that Florida Panthers fans have waited a long, long time to see.

“The ball’s in our court,” said Brian Campbell “Obviously for our division, it’s in our hands. We have the opportunity. We’re still looking at that. First you need to clinch a playoff spot and that’s something that we’re working on. So it’ll be an exciting game Tuesday night against a division rival, a must-win game for us.”

The Panthers need to tie up the division tonight, which would be the first time in Steven Weiss’s career that he has been to the playoffs. Tonight’s game happens to be Weiss’s 29th birthday and there would be no better present for him then to clinch the playoffs for the first time in a decade.

This will also be the 900th game played since the Panthers played in the post-season. 10 years ago today Steven Weiss played in his 1st NHL game and scored his 1st goal. As all numbers and signs point to the number 9 we can hope that Weiss will have a big showing on the Bank Atlantic Center ice tonight!

The Cats will look to guys like Tomas Fleischmann, 10 points in his last 10 games played, and Jose Theodore, 22-15-10 to lead the way…It should be a big night for hockey in South Florida….and we need everyone to be there and fill the building with RED… these players that have been fighting so hard to make the post-season.
